Cable Prep® Announces New Multi-compression Tools
One Tool Connectorizes F-, RCA, and BNC Connectors
CHESTER, CT, May 12, 2008 — Cable Prep®, a leading supplier of cable preparation tools to the telecommunications industry, today announced the availability of a new line of compression tools that feature an innovative "spin and store" connector support wheel. Called the MCT series, these multi-compression tools attach all RCA, BNC, and F connectors used on RG-6, RG-59, mini-coax, and RG-11 cables.
Unlike other compression tools that have two in-line dogs to support multiple cable sizes and connector throw distances, the Cable Prep MCT tools employ an innovative selection wheel. Spinning the wheel positions one set of dogs for use and stores the other set in the wheel housing, conveniently out of the way. While competing tools are cumbersome to operate due to the difficulty of properly seating the cable, the streamlined MCT design makes inserting the cable, compressing the connector, and releasing the cable a fast, easy, error-free task.
"We always kept the technician in mind as we developed these multi-compression tools," said Dave Morrow, Vice President of Engineering at Cable Prep. "The tools are constructed for durability in the field, but they are surprisingly lightweight. Selecting the right dogs and factory-calibrated setting is simply a matter of spinning the wheel. Extraneous hardware is stored out of the way and does not interfere with the connectorization process. Because the design is balanced, the tool can be operated with either hand, and only one hand is needed to insert and remove the cable."
Cable Prep MCT tools also have a higher mechanical advantage than competitive tools, making connectorization of even the most hard-to-close connectors an easy, one-handed operation. A single plunger tip supports all connector types, as the tip is slotted to handle RCA connectors. The plunger is pre-calibrated at the factory, and a lock nut maintains the calibration over long periods of use. Field recalibration when switching between connector types is usually unnecessary.
The patented support dogs on the MCT tools provide 360-degree connector support, which ensures uniform compression and avoids distorting the connector. The spring-loaded dogs separate easily, allowing cables to be inserted and removed with one hand and eliminating the risk of crimping or damaging the cable.
Cable Prep MCT multi-compression tools are currently shipping in volume and are available from authorized Cable Prep distributors worldwide. One tool in the MCT series attaches all RCA connectors and all F connectors used on RG-6, -59, and -11 cables. The other MCT tool attaches all RCA, F, and BNC connectors used on RG-6 and -59 cables and mini-coax cables.
